GTA Online Taxi Work: How to Start, Max Payout, and More

With all previous updates like the Import/Export and Los Santos Drug Wars, you’d think there would be no more honest ways to earn money.

After all, running a criminal empire selling weapons to the private military can be lucrative. But what if you’re locked from such an option by a purchase of a Shark Cash Card?

In this guide, we’ll explore the viability of taxi work as a money-making method if you’re new to GTA Online.

What is a Taxi Work in GTA Online?

In GTA Online, taxi work involves picking up and dropping off passengers at their desired locations.

How to Start Taxi Work in GTA Online

To start doing the side hustle, follow these steps:

1. Click your map button and find the “Downtown Cab Co.” icon.

2. Head to the place and enter the small white corona (not to be confused with the Arm Wrestling activity).

Note: If you’re a leader or an MC Club/SecuroServ member, you’ll be asked to leave first.

3. Press the interact button to start.

If you start the hustle, the cab company will let you borrow a taxi. Alongside, dispatch will ping your map with the passenger’s location. We recommend marking the destination like this:

Press your interact button near the passenger and wait for them to enter. This time, you won’t need to mark the destination point as the game automatically leads you to a pathway.

Remember: You can stop driving whenever you like.

Max Payout for Doing Taxi Work in GTA Online

To give a glimpse of the payout, here’s a table showing all 20 completed taxi fares:

FareTip
$115$1,090
$100$1,040
$113$1,210
$122$1,380
$128$1,460
$127$1,530
$132$1,640
$128$1,720
$116$1,870
$111$1,940
$132$1,960
$139$1,910
$116$1,910
$107$1,920
$144$1,940
$133$1,970
$110$1,930
$122$1,900
$106$1,940
$124$1,970

From the data above, fares will vary per passenger, but they stay within the hundred-dollar mark.

Tips from satisfied clients will make you the most money, with the value starting from $1,000 to $2,000.

The game will indicate you’ve reached the maximum tip bonus after completing ten fares, but that’s false.

From our table example, $1,940 isn’t the best value as the 16th and 20th passengers want to pay more.

However, the decrease over time in compensation isn’t included (around 3% of the original fare every 30 seconds), so expect less earnings.

Overall, doing the taxi work in GTA Online is worth $1,000 to $1,900 for the first nine passengers. You can expect $1,900 to $2,000+ per passenger or $35,000 hourly beyond that. However, you should consider driving well to satisfy the client while maximizing your payout.

Some tips to be a better driver:

  • Listen to something to improve focus.
  • Drive fast enough to prevent spooking your client.
  • Avoid crashing while on the road.
  • Reach the destination as fast as possible.
  • Don’t kill civilians. You’re a taxi driver, not a gunslinger.

Is Taxi Work Worth It?

Yes and no. There’s no entry barrier if you’re a new player looking for quick cash. Moreover, you can level up your driving skills if you plan to participate in heists and do more profitable ventures like Vehicle Cargo.

Important Note: The taxi is available to purchase from Warstock Cache & Carry for $650,000 (or $487,500 after completing ten fares). If you plan on investing with hopes of profiting, you’re better off saving it for another business.

Speaking of other businesses, we’ve compared doing taxi work to some beginner-friendly active and passive ones:

Business ModelProfitProfit Deficit (based on $1,000 to $2,000 or $30,000 offered from Taxi)
Cocaine Lockup$63,300$33,000
Contact Missions$114,000 (minimum and depends if they’re high-paying missions)$84,000
Counterfeit Cash Factory$38,000$8,000
Methamphetamine Lab$41,400$11,400
Weed Farm$34,200$4,200

All items listed above except ‘Contact Missions’ generate cash passively.

However, since all MC Club businesses depend on supplies, you’ll need to steal or buy before you can sell stocks.

The closest, most profitable money-making idea when doing taxi work in GTA Online is specializing in Vehicle Cargo.

You only need a minimum of $1,500,000 to buy a Warehouse, and it gets better with the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack for a free Office.

Improvement Ideas For Taxi Work

It sounded fantastic when Rockstar Games re-introduced the concept of making money by driving a cab in GTA Online. One satisfied passenger went off, and another came in until reaching the tenth fare (it gets way tedious).

Since it’s GTA Online, gamers like us thought it’d be nice if taxi work offered more thrill. Some example events we believe are good inclusions:

  • A fugitive with a five-star Wanted level needs your help escaping the military.
  • An Altruist Cult member tricking you to go to their camp with armed members at the entrance.
  • A reputable gang hires you as a courier for illegal goods (the police will tail you).
  • An injured gang leader asking you to take him to the infirmary.

The possibilities are endless, and should the game developer execute ideas correctly, the job may become more enticing and rewarding simultaneously.

But until then, this hustle is locked by a low payout, so consider your options wisely.
