How to Make Money in GTA Online for Beginners?
There are many ways to bank money if you’re starting out, from petty theft to smuggling illegal goods.
Here are all of them:
14. Rob Convenience Stores
There are 20 convenience store locations, and it can be a decent way to make money in GTA Online as a beginner.
Note: This option is viable if you’re a new character, earning you $1000 to $2000 per robbed store.
Point your gun to the cashier to start robbing. We recommend shooting store products to speed up the process. Otherwise, kill the cashier and loot the cash register.
Doing either will get you two to three Wanted Level stars, so park an armored vehicle nearby, like the Imponte Duke O’Death.
Pros
- Beginner-friendly.
- Fast cash.
Cons
- The Cashier may shoot back.
- The police and military could kill you.
- Chance to get your Personal Vehicle impounded (can be stolen or paid $250).
- Better alternatives exist.
13. Sell Stolen Cars to LS Customs
You can make $500 to $9,500 every 48 real-life minutes by selling stolen vehicles to Los Santos Customs.
The selling price depends on the vehicle and if it’s in good condition when delivered.
Note: Selling stolen cars priced more than $100,000 isn’t accepted, and the message “too hot” will appear.
You may sell your unused cars to free up Garage space in GTA Online, with 60% of the base price and 50% for all modifications. If the vehicle is free, you’ll get $0.
Pros
- Very beginner-friendly.
- Easy money.
Cons
- Capped payout.
- Slow time cooldown.
- Better options exist.
12. Be a Taxi Driver
While not the most lucrative method, being a taxi driver is suitable for new players. You can earn between $1,000 to $2,000 per passenger.
To start driving, go to Downtown Cab as shown below:
Go to the white corona. Enter the taxi, and you’ll receive instructions from dispatch to load passengers and drop them to their destination.
Remember: Fares depend on the client.
You’ll make the most money from tips, so drive carefully but reach the destination as fast as possible. The rate may decrease over time, but it is still acceptable.
Pros
- Free Taxi Cab.
- Great for leveling up driving skills.
- Easy to start.
- Scalable payout.
Cons
- Tedious and repetitive.
- Better options exist.
11. Complete Daily Objectives
GTA Online rewards you with $30,000 and 5,000 RP for completing three Daily Objectives. Upon accomplishing this for seven consecutive days, you’ll receive $150,000 and 20,000 RP. Maintaining this streak for 28 days rewards you with $750,000 and 50,000 RP.
Check the Menu by pressing “M”, and you’ll find the tasks.
Pros
- Large payout.
- Available for fresh accounts.
Cons
- May require a co-op session.
- Mixed difficulty.
10. Spin the Lucky Wheel
The Diamond Casino & Resort has a Lucky Wheel you can spin daily for free.
You’ll get various rewards, including:
- RP (2,500 to 15,000)
- Cash ($20,000 to $50,000)
- Chips (10,000 to 25,000)

Take the chance and head to this icon on the map:

- Available to newly-created characters.
Cons
- Limited to one spin per day.
- Better options exist.
9. Complete Random Events
Wandering around the San Andreas state can help you make money as a beginner in GTA Online.
Random events are brief missions, considered “side hustles”. Most are repeatable, while others appear once.
The payout is mission-dependent, but you’ll earn around $7,007 to $75,000 with 2,000 to 2,500 bonus RP.
Pros:
- Decent for extra cash.
- Favors Free Mode players.
Cons
- Mixed difficulty.
- Hard to spot.
- Can be a bad time investment.
8. Find G’s Caches
Gerald’s hidden caches spawn daily, giving you $15,000 to $22,250, RP, snacks, and ammunition upon pickup.
Open the map and search for the icon below:
Approaching the search zone will mark it in a white circle. You’ll hear a beeping sound once near the package, and looting it may give a two-star Wanted Level.
As a GTA Online beginner, your cache’s location is unique from other players so that you can search uninterrupted.
Pros
- Fast cash and RP.
- Easy to find.
Cons
- Daily cooldown.
- You may need to evade the cops after looting.
7. Raid Stash Houses
While Stash Houses are random Free Mode encounters, you can check the map and see this icon:
To enter a Stash House, walk to the purple corona. Inside are five gang members you must eliminate.
Afterward, find a yellow note containing the code to open the safe.
Upon looting the safe, exit the Stash House and leave the area. The Lost MC will hunt you, but killing or hiding from them is optional.
A successful Stash House raid will give you $30,000 and 1000 RP if you are not running any businesses. Otherwise, you’ll receive free business supplies and an additional $500.
Twenty-five Stash House locations are available throughout Los Santos and Blaine County, changing daily.
Pros
- Easy money and RP.
- Can’t be raided by other players.
- On-point objectives.
- A new character can still succeed.
- Free business supplies.
Con
- Limited to once in a real-time day.
6. Partake in Survival Series
Participating in Survival pits you against ten enemy waves with increasing difficulty. One match takes between 25 and 30 minutes, rewarding you $30,000 upon completion.
We recommend having one Assault Rifle type before starting Survival to increase your winning chance.
Pros
- Decent money reward.
- Bonus cash per wave delay.
Cons
- Requires a lot of ammo and armor.
- Difficult in solo.
- Time-consuming.
5. Complete Contact Missions
Various contact missions are available in GTA Online with payout depending on the client and your rank.
Here’s the estimated money you’ll get for each client:
Contact Person | Payout Range |
---|---|
Fooligan Jobs (Dax) | $50,000 to all missions |
Gerald | $18,300 to $19,800 |
Lamar Davis | $18,300 to $19,800 |
Lester Crest | $18,840 to $19,800 |
Martin Madrazo | $19,080 to $19,440 |
Ron Jakowski | $18,780 to $19,800 |
Simeon Yetarian | $18,300 to $19,860 |
Simeon’s Premium Deluxe Repo Work | $23,100 to all missions |
Trevor Philips | $19,200 to $19,680 |
Go to the Jobs Menu, contact the client, or head to their respective map icon to start any Contact Mission.
Pros
- Easy access.
- On-point objectives.
Cons
- Repetitive over time.
- Mixed difficulty.
4. Run a Motorcycle Club
The cheapest Clubhouse in GTA Online costs $200,000, and you can bank $7,000 to $25,500 per contract. Passively, you’ll earn $25,000 after a successful resupply (which also nets $10,000).
If you’re new, you may register as an MC President and do tasks alone or with friends. The average reward increases with co-op contracts if available.
Pros
- Straightforward contracts.
- Good passive income potential.
Cons
- Can get repetitive.
- Some missions are locked in solo mode.
3. Purchase a Bunker and Start Gunrunning
Selling illegal arms can be profitable in GTA Online. If you’re playing solo and have the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack, you can have the Paleto Forest Bunker and skip paying $1,165,000.
Either option, gunrunning is highly profitable.
After setting up, Agent 14 lets you buy or steal supplies. Sell your stock afterward, but doing solo means you have to keep it for not more than $100,000. If you have an associate or bodyguard, expect a higher payout.
Pros
- Great passive income.
- Extra money from excess manufactured parts.
Con
- Stealing supplies and selling stocks could get risky.
2. Sell Counterfeit Cash
Consider buying a Counterfeit Cash Factory alongside the Great Chaparral Clubhouse if you have the Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack.
Like the Bunker, we recommend selling the stock for no more than $100,000, as it needs another player (oftentimes). But the profit potential scales further with another player or two.
Pros
- Highly-scalable.
- Less risky than other options.
Con
- Can get tedious because of the easy difficulty.
1. Sell Special Cargos
If you own the Criminal Enterprise Pack in GTA Online, you’ll get the free Maze Bank West Executive Office.
Registering as a SecuroServ CEO enables access to sourcing and selling profitable Special Cargos.
The cheapest Warehouse (for Special Cargo storage) costs $250,000. It can stockpile 16 Crates, selling for $240,000 in a bulk order. We recommend learning how to fly a plane to ensure the package doesn’t break.
Note: Because of the long cooldown, it’s advisable to purchase three crates ($18,000). You may also source cargo from Lupe or other warehouse staff for $7,500. Wait for one in-game day, and your staff will contact you.
Pros
- Extremely profitable.
- Sourcing missions get easier over time.
- Filling multiple warehouses is viable.
Cons
- All-or-nothing risk.
- Requires good preparation.
- May attract players on public lobbies.
