Nowadays, there are lots of devices making gaming easy, and Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), set to release in 2025, is no exception.

According to Take2-Interactive’s official announcement, GTA 6 will soon be available on console devices like PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

But, for Windows PC, it’s not confirmed yet. Many players wonder if GTA 6 will be playable across different platforms.

What Platforms Does GTA 6 Support?

As confirmed by Take2-Interactive so far, GTA 6 is playable on console devices, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

We also had a post discussing why Rockstar will be delaying the release of GTA 6 on the Windows platform, and it is due to technical issues and sales factors.

To support this, a former Rockstar developer stated that one reason Rockstar doesn’t release the game earlier on PC is that “they run the risk of hackers and modders changing the core gaming experience they want to deliver to the players“.

In other words, they don’t want these people to mess up the main gaming experience they planned for players.

We’re still unable to confirm whether Rockstar will release their next GTA installment on the Microsoft Windows platform. However, we believe that the delays in GTA’s PC release are part of Rockstar’s strategy, indicating that GTA 6 will likely be released on PC.

Will GTA 6 Be Crossplatform?

According to Newzoo, there are 892 million players on PCs and 629 million players on consoles in 2023.

This huge number of players on PC and consoles makes it sensible for Rockstar to release their game on Windows PC, even if it’s a bit later than on console devices.

As a result, there is a high chance that GTA 6 will be cross-platform.

Will GTA 6 Be Crossplay?

For those curious about the term “cross-play“, it means that players on different gaming platforms (such as PlayStation, Xbox, PC, etc.) can join the session together.

Although GTA 5 allows players to enjoy it on different platforms, it’s impossible to cross-play.

Looking at the big picture, only a few games let players from different platforms play together. There are reasons for this:

• One reason is the technical issues. Each platform runs on different codes, which makes it hard to make games work the same on all of them.
• Another reason might be about profit. Platform holders may have exclusive agreements with game developers, making it financially unfeasible to enable cross-play.
• Also, they might worry about people spending money on one console and then using it on another.
• There are rules, too. Different platforms have different rules about how games work and how safe they are, making it tricky to do cross-play.

Specifically for GTA Online, lots of players reckon that allowing cross-play between console and PC could be chaotic because PC gamers might use mods that give them an edge and make things tough for console players.

So, even though Rockstar hasn’t made any announcements about the possibility of GTA 6 having cross-play yet, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for this dream to come true.
