For those who haven’t finished GTA 5 yet, the final mission requires you to control Franklin and choose among three options: Kill Trevor, kill Michael, or team up with them against the enemies.
However, since Michael and Trevor are favorite protagonists for many players, letting them die isn’t a plan most opt for. As a result, many tend to choose the last option. That’s what the “Deathwish” means.
In this guide, we’ll show you one of the best missions in GTA 5: The Third Way – Death Wish.

What is The “Deathwish” Mission in GTA 5?
Deathwish is the mission where Franklin chooses to stand by Michael and Trevor, devising plans to eliminate Haines, Devin Weston, Wei Cheng, and Stretch.
Deathwish is well-known as the canonical ending for GTA 5, as Michael, Franklin, and Trevor are supposed to survive in the end. However, there is still no evidence indicating that this is the true ending.
You will be given three options: “Kill Trevor,” “Kill Michael,” or “Deathwish.”
If you choose the Deathwish option, all 3 protagonists team up to take down their enemies and settle the score.
What Happens If You Choose Deathwish?
As mentioned earlier, this mission ensures the survival of your protagonists, making it a good ending.
Here’s the summary of the mission:
- After choosing the Deathwish option, Franklin heads to Lester’s place to create a plan to eliminate other antagonists instead of Michael or Trevor.
- Subsequently, Franklin goes to the foundry, where he discovers Michael and Trevor engaged in an argument, considering killing each other.
- Michael, Trevor, and Franklin collaborate to eliminate all the FIB agents, and Merryweather mercenaries present in the foundry.
- Later, Franklin leaves the foundry to rescue Lamar, while Michael and Trevor continue fighting against the FIB agents.
- Following the foundry altercation, the team then lists specific targets for elimination: Wei Cheng (handled by Franklin), Stretch (handled by Michael), Haines (handled by Trevor), and Devin Weston (kidnapped by Trevor).
- Players control each protagonist to complete these tasks. Ultimately, Trevor assaults Devin’s house, eliminates his security personnel, abducts Devin, and drives to a cliff in Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness. The protagonists then push Devin’s car, with him inside, off the cliff into the ocean below.
Deathwish is one of the last missions in GTA 5. It’s a special moment because it shows how much the three main characters—Franklin, Michael, and Trevor—stick together.
No matter what fights or problems they have, they always have each other’s backs.
GTA 5 Ending Might Be Connected to GTA 6
In a scene with Michael and Lester planning a jewelry heist, Lester mentions, “An eastern European guy making moves in Liberty City”.
That hinted that Niko Bellic might still be around. Sometimes, at Michael’s house, you’d catch his family talking, and Jimmy’s laptop would show Niko’s Lifeinvader profile.
In Niko’s profile, his cousin Roman left a comment indicating he’s alive. This hint might suggest that the real ending of GTA 4 is the one where Roman lives.
GTA 6 could also unveil the real ending of GTA 5, just like they hinted at Niko Bellic and Roman. So, GTA 6 might keep this method as well.
Although we can’t be that sure, there’s a chance for a connection or conclusion in the next game.
