We all know that Netflix is a streaming platform, but it has recently added a new gaming feature. It is now targeting Grand Theft Auto as its latest game title.
In this article, we will discuss the possibility of Netflix acquiring a GTA game title in its game directory.
Will Netflix Add GTA To Its Games Service?
According to a WSJ, reports suggest that Netflix wants to add a Grand Theft Auto game to its Netflix Games service.
The fact that the streaming giant is making this move indicates their keen interest in the well-known video game franchise.
GTA on Netflix
According to the Wall Street Journal, Netflix might be in talks with Take-Two Interactive for a GTA mobile game.
Considering the new Assassin’s Creed game on Netflix will be original, the rumored Grand Theft Auto mobile game will also be original.
The kind of game it would be, or who would develop it, remains to be seen.
GTA Spin-off
Currently, if a GTA spin-off were to be featured on Netflix, it would only be available as a mobile game because the only way to access Netflix’s content is through its mobile app.
Netflix plans to broaden its collection by introducing games that can be streamed on TV or PC in the future.
Games on Netflix: Will it Last?
According to a source, as of September 20, games on Netflix had been downloaded 70.5 million times, but they don’t seem to attract new subscribers.
It may sound like a lot, but it’s relatively small compared to the world’s biggest mobile games, like Honkai: Star Rail, with over 20 million downloads on its launch day alone.
Apptopia reports that less than 1% of Netflix subscribers play its games daily. This is because some of its acclaimed games are available on other platforms.
Will Rockstar Games Accept?
The GTA franchise is one of the biggest in entertainment history. According to a source, GTA V alone has sold nearly 200 million copies, and the entire franchise has now sold over 400 million copies.
With GTA 6 on the way, this is a good move for Rockstar Games to cash in a big payday by licensing the games to Netflix.
This is not the first time Rockstar Games has agreed to licensing deals. Currently, they are funding the Max Payne Remake while Remedy Entertainment is developing it.
Wow this is big news! Now I want to subscribe to Netflix if this happens. 😀
